VC of GB v Beaconsfield

19th February 2012

This was the 15th annual match played against Beaconsfield which we just lost 2 – 3. As ever it was most enjoyable with some excellent squash followed by another good meal.  Our team has always included mainly members who play at Broxbourne and this was again the situation this year.

The first strings have now played each other no less than 6 times with some very close results and this year our man, Dave Cooper, was in superb form beating Chris Gildersleve 3 – 0.  At two, Peter Smith of Uxbridge playing for us for the first time, also won playing against the Beaconsfield captain and organiser of the function in another good match.  We did not do so well in the other three games.  Mike Fagg, who had not played a competitive match for some time, lost heavily to Phil Courtenay-Luck who was in top form.  Barry Skelding started well against Laurie Smith of Beaconsfield but then lost in four.  Berge Kay at 5, returning after a long period of incapacity, lost 3 – 0 but did well in the first two games against Howard Machin.

Beaconsfield have a large number of vets and vintage players and although they are well ahead of us in the results over the 15 years, always provide a well balanced opposition.  Their club has first class facilities and it is always a pleasure to play there.
