VC of GB v Dorking

13th March 2012

The annual match was again a memorable  evening. We are always made to feel so welcome by Bob Gray who seems to have hosted this match forever. Sadly he could not play due to an injury but it was good to see Harriet  his wife on court against Nigel Belle.

Keith Jones was due to head our team but twisted his knee a couple of days before the match and had to scratch; Stephen Jackson had to move up to No 1. It was an excellent game to watch but  Mark was just a bit too strong – and too young.  Geoff Gill had won his previous 2 matches against  Dorking but could not manage it this time. Dave Smith, a new member, took the place of Geoff Howes  and played very well in his first match and did well to get a game. Keith Searle tried his best but could not match the strength of his opponent. Nigel Belle was one game down and had to concentrate like mad to hold his own. He had some excellent reaction shots and very accurate drops to finally manage a well deserved win.  Lance Kinder and John Woodliffe were two love down in their doubles match but finally managed to come through.

Full results were:
