VC of GB v BEXLEY

22nd April 2016

It was good to see John Prowse back to normality (?) following a very serious illness last year which prevented this annual fixture being played in 2015.

The GB Vets had numerous regular players away/ill/injured but we fielded a team worthy of victory.

However we did not start well with Nigel Belle at No.5 succumbing to a fit, athletic ‘youngster’ and Mark Eames at No.4 and a newcomer to the GB Vets, also losing in 3. Mark no doubt is still dreaming (perhaps having nightmares) of being 8/1 up in the second and……losing it 9/10!

Nick wise, not his usual determined self, quickly went down 0/2 and opted for game ball at 8/8in the third. Having won that game he then just lost the fourth 8/10 – a close game in the end which could have gone either way.

Andy Bonner at No.1 knew his opponent of old and knew he would be ‘up against it’. And so it was and although he put up a valiant effort it was to no avail.

Karen Hume at No.3 was in excellent form, looking very fit and playing exceptionally well. A very well deserved win 3/1.

So a win for Bexley 4/1.

A superb 3 course meal followed, including cheese and port + the usual jovial banter. A most enjoyable evening was had by all. Whilst losing this time around the GB Vets are still just ahead cumulatively over the decade or so that this fixture has been held.

Full results were as follows:
