VC of GB v Dorking

16th February 2016

Always a favourite fixture, the 2016 event was again a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The everlasting doubles duo of Lance Kinder and John Woodliffe were on first playing the best of 3. They won 2/0.

On the other court Graham Chambers, having just won the Vulnerables Jesters Tournament a few weeks earlier, looked rather out of sorts and went down 1/3.

Nigel Belle, suffering a touch of man ‘flu, took the first game but then managed only 2 points in the next 3 games.

It was left to President Phil Ayton, to level the score. However right from the start his opponent always seemed to have the upper hand. Although the technical brilliance of Phil often shone this excellent match ended with a Dorking win.

So a 3/1 overall win for Dorking.

Thanks to Bob and Harriet Gray’s excellent organisation and superb culinary skills the GB Vets went home happy and fulfilled, looking forward to next year’s contest and vowing to seek revenge on the squash court.

Full results were as follows:

Dorking   GB Vets
Dave Andrews beat Phil Ayton 3-0
