22nd February 2016
Thanks mainly to fellow GB Vet, Berge Kay, this new (perhaps resurrected!) fixture was played at Finchley Manor on February 22nd.
On the squash courts it was a tough night for the GB Vets. Dave Leach at No.1 found his tall, young, super fit opponent far too strong losing 0/3, whilst Andy Bonner at 2 having narrowly lost the second 8/10 and having saved match ball in the third 9/10 eventually went down fighting 1/3.
Peter Young at 3 battled hard but to no avail and lost 0/3 and Karen Hume having narrowly lost the first 9/10 also went down 0/3.
It was left to skipper Nigel Belle to save a whitewash which he did in fine style winning 3/0.
Unfortunately Robert Smith’s opponent was a ‘no show’ so the overall result was a win for the Escorts 4/2.
But an excellent meal and wine and excellent company saved the day with the GB Vets vowing to take revenge next year.
A vote of thanks to Berge for arranging a great evening of squash and hospitality.
