GB VETS v CAMBERLEY

29th NOVEMBER 2018

The annual match at Sandhurst is always closely contested and great fun and this year was no exception. A close match followed by the curry night at the local Wetherspoons, what could be better.

We started well and went 2/0 up. Bryan Francis beat Ed Woods 3/1 where his fitness told in the later stages of a close match. All that training that Bryan does every day whilst delivering the Royal Mail was put to good use. Graham Chambers a Septuagenarian took on the distinguished Octogenarian John Woodliffe who was playing for the opposition on this occasion. The rallies were not long but nevertheless interesting in their own way and Graham scrapped home in each game to win 3/0.

Ash Chakraborty and Alan Boulden gave their all but were beaten by younger and fitter opponents and both lost 3/1 to Keith Parsons and Dave Smith respectively to level the match score.

It all came down to the decider for the Number Ones. Steve Wright making his debut for the Vets was leading 2/1 against Graham Parsons when he unfortunately sustained a hamstring injury and had to retire. This was a great pity as the high quality match was evenly poised and being enjoyed by all those on the balcony.

So a Camberley win 3/2.

Thanks to Andy Craig for organising the match and we look forward to next year.
