GB VETS v Nuffield Health

8th April 2011

On a lovely warm, sunny evening, more conducive perhaps for 9 holes of golf than squash, regular GB Vets members took on the might of Nuffield Health & Wellbeing for the fourth year.

6 a side, Nigel Belle at 6 lost to fellow GB Vet Alan Nelson in a hard fought battle 0/3. Robert Smith, not at his best after a gruelling day at the office, lost easily 0/3 as well, whilst Karen Hume, looking at times to be a winner, eventually lost 1/3 in a tight match.

Peter Willmor, waiting patiently to be called for a knee op, still managed a good win 3/1.

It was billed as the battle of the sexes, perhaps a defining moment in their marriage, that Mandy and Albert Akin took to the court to settle the score once and for all!  9/5, 5/9, 9/6, 6/9, 2 all, then 6/6, who was going to win this titanic battle? By his own admission Albert then ran out of steam, his legs wouldn’t  obey his brain’s command, and he lost 6/9. A great game – and they are still happily married!

3 all in matches, Nuffield won 12/10 on games.

16 then sat down for a 3 course meal (gorgeous puds and cheese provided by Nigel’s wife Jane).  Non-drivers enjoyed beer, wine and port and drivers… pure Adam’s ale!
