This annual fixture is looking more like a GB Vets match vs GB Vets since apart from one Nuffield player about to signup to the GB Vets and one other being only 23 years old, all other players were members!

3 singles and 1 doubles match were played in the usual friendly but competitive spirit. The high point of the match was the No.1 string Dave Leach for Nuffield playing British O50 Women’s Champion Mandy Akin. A match of the highest quality produced the best squash out of them both and in the end it was 9/4 to Dave in the fifth.

Andy Bonner at No.2 battled hard against a very athletic, highly competent 23 year old, but having survived match ball against in the 3rd eventually went down 1/3.

Roger Sulley at No.3 having narrowly lost the first 9/10 was then no match for Nick Wise and lost 1/3.

The well known doubles duo of Robert Smith and Nigel Belle had an entertaining battle against Albert Akin (Mandy’s husband) and Nick Wise. Albert should have been renamed ‘Nick’ Akin since any loose ball on his forehand found its way, with monotonous regularity, totally unplayable front left…….in the nick! Smith & Belle went down 0/3.

A superb dinner with wine and delicious puds made by Jane Belle rounded off a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
