A great match producing a 3-3 draw and every game competitive. Geoff Lees started against home captain Steve Jackson and this was a close contest with Geoff easing through 3-1. On the second court Ian Graham was facing Peter Johnstone who’s hard hitting game proved too much for Ian and a 1-3 loss. The next match on court was the very first occasion that a GBV member played Racketball against his opponent, a new member driven idea, with Chris Lock beating Paul Hudson-Oldnall 3-0 in a long game on a warm court. Dale Macarter then faced up to Charlie Hoare. Charlie played some superb shots but Dale’s retrieving and powerful counterplay saw him wear down his opponent and clinch the match 3-1. This left Bourne needing to win the last two rubbers. Paul Reader played some classy shots for GBV but Bryn Crouch’s greater mobility and youth took him to a 3-1 win. Debutant Matt Clarke was up against a very strong player in David Henderson and chased down an incredible number od David’s best shots, but a visibly tiring David converted the first three close games to seal a win and tie the overall match.

Thanks to Steve Jackson for matching up the two teams so that everyone enjoyed their game. We drank a decent amount of alcohol and even more pizza in the post match supper. Thanks to my GBV team who all travelled a good distance to this evening match.
